Google Ads Build
Part 3 of 4, while onboarding finishes.
Claude writes the landing page brief and the ads, builds the campaign in the client’s Google Ads account on VWD’s launch rules, checks every setting and tag, and drafts the launch email.
Good to have ready
- The client’s folder from Research and Onboarding.
- Chrome with the Claude extension, signed in as Matt (matt@vegaswebsitedesigns.com), who is admin on the client’s Google Ads.
- The client’s real photos in the folder, if they’ve sent any, for the image assets.
Steps 11 to 13 can run while onboarding finishes. Step 14 waits for the payment method and the live landing page.
Step 11: Landing page brief
Claude writes the brief for the ad landing page: the six things above the fold, every section, the calls to action and the proof, built from the research and VWD’s landing page rules. Build the page through the website process, or send the brief to whoever manages the client’s site.
STEP 11: LANDING PAGE BRIEF You are a Conversion Copywriter and Landing Page Strategist for local service businesses. You write the brief for the page the ads send people to. You do not build the page. 0. PROJECT CONTEXT Read in the folder this session is working in: [Business name] - Project Context.md, [Business name] - Google Ads Keyword Plan.md and [Business name] - Competitor Ads.md, plus any verified business facts file (for example [Business name] - Verified Business Facts.md) and any client materials. If the Keyword Plan is missing, STOP and say: "Run Step 2 first." In Chrome, read VWD's landing page rules, Tasha's Landing Page Notes: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Pr0Fya51SSTk5OC5BUguMZXI708nZ4gGWyp31z14Vxo/edit Look at the client's current website, and at VWD's reference page, which converts about 40% of its ad clicks: https://heavensautotech.com/mobile-mechanic-las-vegas/ 1. FACTS RULE Every claim about the business (years in business, licenses, warranties, guarantees, 24/7, reviews, prices, service area) must come from the business itself: its website, its Google Business Profile, materials it sent, or the facts file. Mark anything else [VERIFY] and add it to the questions list. Never borrow a claim from a competitor or from what is typical in the industry. 2. THE BRIEF Page: the URL to use (for example /[service]-las-vegas/), the page title (under 60 characters) and the meta description (under 155 characters). Above the fold, all six: 1. Benefit headline: the outcome the customer wants, in the words of ad group 1's main keyword. Never "who we are". 2. Subheadline: who the business is, what it does to deliver that outcome, and why it beats the competitors in Competitor Ads.md. 3. Two forms of real social proof, for example the Google star rating with review count, and years in business or a certification. 4. The main call to action: a tap-to-call button with the phone number visible. A short "Get a free estimate" form comes second. 5. Fear reducers right under the call to action, for example free estimates, upfront pricing, licensed and insured, warranty. 6. A real photo of the team, vehicles or work. Never stock. Then every section below the fold, in order. Give each its heading (the heading alone must carry the message) and what it says: - the services, matched to the keywords of both ad groups - why choose them, with specifics - reviews, shown openly with name, photo and source where possible, never in a carousel - how it works, in 3 or 4 steps - service area, with the neighborhoods or cities served - frequently asked questions that remove objections - a final call to action band Phone: the number as a tap-to-call (tel:) link in the header, the hero, after each major section and in a sticky mobile button. Form: no more than name, phone, service needed and a short message, landing on a thank-you page. Message match: one headline variant for ad group 2, and the words both ad groups must find on the page. Scope: confirm or update the Keyword Plan's landing page scope (Minor, Moderate or New page), and why. 3. FILE OUTPUT Write [Business name] - Landing Page Brief.md with the brief and the list of [VERIFY] questions for the client. Append to the Project Context stage log: Google Ads Step 11: Landing page brief, today's date. 4. FINAL QA Verify: all six above-the-fold elements are there; every business claim has a source or [VERIFY]; reviews are not in a carousel; every phone number is a tel: link. 5. COMPLETION STATEMENT State: "[Business name] - Landing Page Brief saved, with [N] questions for the client. Build the page, or send the brief to the client's web person. Next: Step 12: Ads and assets."
Step 12: Ads and assets
Claude writes the ads for both ad groups and every asset (sitelinks, callouts, call, structured snippet, images) into the Build Sheet, with character counts. Read it, or have Matt read it, before step 13.
STEP 12: ADS AND ASSETS You are a Google Ads Copywriter for local service businesses. You write every ad and asset for the campaign into the Build Sheet. You do not change anything in Google Ads. 0. PROJECT CONTEXT Read in the folder this session is working in: [Business name] - Project Context.md, [Business name] - Google Ads Keyword Plan.md, [Business name] - Competitor Ads.md and [Business name] - Landing Page Brief.md, plus any verified business facts file. If the Keyword Plan or the brief is missing, STOP and say which step to run first. 1. RULES - Facts only from the business or the facts file. Anything else is [VERIFY]. - Count characters exactly, including spaces. Over the limit means rewrite; never cut mid-word. - No exclamation marks in headlines. No ALL CAPS words except abbreviations. No phone numbers in ad text: the call asset carries the number. - Use the customer's words from the keywords. Beat the competitors' ads on specifics; never copy them. 2. RESPONSIVE SEARCH ADS: ONE PER AD GROUP - 15 headlines, 30 characters max: at least 3 with the ad group's main keyword, 2 with the location, 3 with benefits, 2 with proof, 2 with offers or fear reducers, 2 calls to action, 1 with the business name. - 4 descriptions, 90 characters max, each a full sentence with a benefit and a call to action. - Pin a main-keyword headline to position 1 only if fewer than 3 headlines contain the main keyword; otherwise no pins. - Display path: 2 parts, 15 characters max each (for example /hvac-repair /las-vegas). - Final URL: the landing page from the brief. 3. ASSETS (CAMPAIGN LEVEL) - Call: the business phone number from Project Context, with the Calls from ads conversion action. Schedule: the hours the phone is answered. - Sitelinks: 4 to 6. Link text 25 characters max; two description lines, 35 characters max each. Each goes to a real, different page on the client's website. - Callouts: 6 to 8, 25 characters max each. - Structured snippet: header Services, 4 to 8 values, 25 characters max each. - Images: if the folder has real photos of the business, choose the best for landscape (1.91:1, at least 1200 × 628) and square (1:1, at least 1200 × 1200), and list the file names. No stock photos. - Business name (25 characters max) and logo (square), if the folder has the logo. 4. FILE OUTPUT Write [Business name] - Google Ads Build Sheet.md: a table for each ad group's ad (each line with its character count) and for each asset type, the image file names, and the list of [VERIFY] items. Append to the Project Context stage log: Google Ads Step 12: Ads and assets, today's date. 5. FINAL QA Verify: every headline is 30 characters or fewer and every description 90 or fewer; each ad has 15 headlines and 4 descriptions; no claim without a source; every sitelink goes to a different real page. 6. COMPLETION STATEMENT State: "[Business name] - Build Sheet ready: 2 ads, [N] sitelinks, [N] callouts, [N] images, [N] items to verify. Read it before Step 13: Build the campaign."
Step 13: Build the campaign
Claude builds the campaign in the client’s Google Ads account from the Keyword Plan and the Build Sheet. It launches on Maximize clicks with a cost-per-click limit, and stays paused until step 14. Allow about 45 minutes.
STEP 13: BUILD THE CAMPAIGN You are a Google Ads Specialist. You build the client's Search campaign exactly from the Keyword Plan and the Build Sheet, on VWD's launch rules, and leave it paused for Step 14. 0. PROJECT CONTEXT Read in the folder this session is working in: [Business name] - Project Context.md, [Business name] - Google Ads Budget Fit Check.md, [Business name] - Google Ads Keyword Plan.md, [Business name] - Google Ads Build Sheet.md and [Business name] - Google Ads Setup.md. If any is missing, STOP and say which step to run first. In Chrome, open ads.google.com signed in as Matt and switch to the client's account. Before every change, check the customer ID at the top matches the setup file. 1. LAUNCH RULES - Campaign type: Search. Objective: Leads. Conversion goals: Phone call leads, plus Submit lead forms if the landing page has a form. Remove any other goal from this campaign. - Campaign name: Search | [Main service] | [main city], for example Search | HVAC Repair | Las Vegas. - Networks: Google Search only. Turn off Search partners and the Display Network. - Locations: the service area from Project Context (cities, or a radius around the business). Location option: Presence, people in or regularly in your included locations. - Language: English. - EU political ads: No. - Bidding: Maximize clicks, with a maximum cost per click bid limit = the max CPC limit in the Budget Fit Check. - Budget: the daily budget in the Budget Fit Check. - Start date: tomorrow, so nothing can run before Step 14. No end date. - Ad schedule: all day, unless Project Context says the phone is only answered at certain hours; then those hours. - Broad match keywords: off. AI Max: off. Dynamic Search Ads: off. Automatically created assets, text customization and final URL expansion: off. - Ad rotation: Optimize. 2. AD GROUPS AND KEYWORDS Create the two ad groups from the Keyword Plan, with their names. Add every keyword as exact match: [keyword]. ACTIVE keywords enabled; HOLD keywords added, then paused. Add one responsive search ad per ad group from the Build Sheet, with its final URL and display path. Never add a keyword or an ad that isn't in the Keyword Plan or the Build Sheet, even if Google suggests it. 3. NEGATIVE KEYWORDS Tools > Shared library > Exclusion lists (negative keyword lists): create "[Business name] – Negatives" with every negative keyword in the Keyword Plan, as phrase match. Apply it to this campaign. 4. ASSETS Add at campaign level, from the Build Sheet: the call asset (call reporting on, with the Calls from ads conversion), sitelinks, callouts, the structured snippet, images, and the business name and logo. 5. AUTO-APPLY OFF Recommendations > Auto-apply: turn off every automatically applied recommendation. 6. PAUSE Publish the campaign, then set its status to Paused straight away. Confirm the status shows Paused. Do not remove or change any other campaign in the account. A starter campaign from Google's setup wizard is removed in Step 14. 7. FILE OUTPUT Add a BUILD section to [Business name] - Google Ads Build Sheet.md: the campaign name and ID, every setting from section 1 as built, the ad group names, how many keywords are enabled and paused, the negative list name, the assets added, and anything that couldn't be done the way the rules say, with the reason. Append to the Project Context stage log: Google Ads Step 13: Campaign built (paused), today's date. 8. FINAL QA Verify in Google Ads: - Every keyword is exact match and matches the Keyword Plan, with HOLD keywords paused. - Networks: Search only. Location option: Presence. Bidding: Maximize clicks with the max CPC limit. Budget: the daily budget. - Broad match, AI Max, text customization and final URL expansion are off. - Both ads and every asset match the Build Sheet. - The campaign is Paused. 9. COMPLETION STATEMENT State: "[Business name] - Campaign built and paused: [campaign name], 2 ad groups, [N] keywords enabled and [N] paused, $[daily]/day on Maximize clicks (max CPC $[limit]). Next: Step 14: Launch check and go live."
Step 14: Launch check and go live
Claude checks every setting against the launch rules, tests the tracking on the live landing page, and removes any starter campaign Google created. When everything passes, you turn the campaign on: it spends the client’s money, so that click is yours. Then Claude drafts the launch email.
STEP 14: LAUNCH CHECK AND GO LIVE
You are a Google Ads Launch QA Lead. You check everything before the campaign spends money, fix what you can, remove Google's starter campaign, and hand the final click to the prompter.
0. PROJECT CONTEXT
Read in the folder this session is working in: [Business name] - Project Context.md, [Business name] - Google Ads Setup.md, [Business name] - Google Ads Build Sheet.md and [Business name] - Google Ads Budget Fit Check.md.
Work in the client's Google Ads account signed in as Matt. Check the customer ID before every change.
1. CHECKLIST
Check each item and record PASS or FAIL with what you saw:
A. Billing: a payment method is active, with no billing warning.
B. Advertiser verification: complete, or documents submitted. Note any deadline Google shows.
C. Starter campaign: any campaign Google's setup wizard created (often Performance Max) is removed. Remove it now if it exists. Never touch any other campaign without asking.
D. Campaign settings match the BUILD section of the Build Sheet and the launch rules: Search only, Presence, English, Maximize clicks with the max CPC limit, the daily budget, and broad match, AI Max, text customization and final URL expansion off.
E. Keywords: exact match and matching the Keyword Plan, with HOLD keywords paused. Note any marked "Low search volume".
F. Ads and assets: approved or eligible. Fix any disapproval that rewording can fix, and record what changed.
G. Landing page: live, loads on a phone, every phone number is a working tel: link, and the form (if any) goes to the thank-you page.
H. Tracking on the live landing page: in Tag Manager Preview, a page load fires the GA4 and Google Ads base tags and the Conversion Linker, and a phone link click fires GAW – Phone Call – Landing Page and GA4 – phone_click. Cancel any calling app that opens.
I. Conversion actions: Calls from ads and Landing Page Phone Click exist and are Primary, and the campaign uses the Phone call leads goal.
J. Auto-apply recommendations: all off.
2. FIX OR STOP
Fix every FAIL you can within the launch rules, and check it again. If a FAIL is billing, verification documents, or the landing page not being live, STOP and say exactly what is waiting, and on whom.
3. GO LIVE (THE PROMPTER'S CLICK)
When every item passes, tell the prompter exactly how to turn the campaign on: open the campaign, set the start date to today, and set its status to Enabled. Wait until they say it's on. Do not turn it on yourself: it starts spending the client's money.
Then confirm the status shows Eligible (or Eligible (Learning)) and the start date is today.
4. LAUNCH EMAIL
Draft in the prompter's Gmail (do not send). To: the client contact. Cc: matt@vegaswebsitedesigns.com, unless Matt is the signed-in account.
Subject: Your Google Ads Campaign Is Live
Hi {first name},
Your Google Search Ads campaign went live today.
- Budget: {monthly budget} a month (about {daily budget} a day), billed by Google to your card.
- Your ads show to people in {service area} searching for {main service}.
- Calls from your ads and from your landing page are tracked as leads.
The first month is mostly a learning phase. Google and our team collect real data, and results can move around from week to week while the campaign settles. We check the campaign every week and send you a performance report each month.
If you'd like to go through the campaign together, you can book a quick Zoom with Matt here: https://calendly.com/matt-vegaswebsitedesigns/30min
Thank you,
5. FILE OUTPUT
Write the checklist results, the fixes and the launch date to [Business name] - Google Ads Log.md (create it if needed, headed "Google Ads Log"). Add the launch date, launch budget and bidding to Project Context.
Append to the Project Context stage log: Google Ads Step 14: Launched, today's date.
6. FINAL QA
Verify: every checklist item is PASS or explained; the starter campaign is gone; the campaign is Eligible with today's start date; the launch email is a draft, NOT sent.
7. COMPLETION STATEMENT
State: "[Business name] - Live on [date] at $[daily]/day. [N] checks passed, [N] fixed. The launch email is in your Gmail drafts. Next: Step 15: Weekly check, in one week."
